Royal Cornwall Show
The Cornwall Support Group has a marquee at the Royal Cornwall Show, by courtesy of the Royal Cornwall Show Association. All the livestock on display are from members in Cornwall who work on the stand selling merchandise, giving advice and information and tending to the livestock. Rare Breed Show Classes for sheep and pigs are well attended and of a high standard.
This year we were on the same site, opposite the pigs and the sheep shearing demonstration. We attracted a constant stream of visitors during the three days of the show.
The weather was showery for the first two days but Saturday turned out to a warm and sunny day, an excellent number of animals were in attendance. Several members of the Cornwall Group were well placed in the Rare Breed Sheep and Pig Showing classes. On the Friday the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester visited our marquee and the Pig Section.
The Cornwall Support Group members have organised the stand at the Show since 1986, and in 2009 celebrated their 25th anniversary of it being formed by asking the former Show secretary Mr Albert Riddle to cut a cake. The Royal Cornwall Show was the first Show to offer a place to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust to display livestock and sell merchandise. Our thanks must go to them for helping premote rare breeds.
